The fourth stop on the Asakusa Seven Lucky Gods pilgrimage is Ishihama Shrine. This shrine enshrines Jurojin, one of the Seven Lucky Gods, known as the deity of longevity. It’s the northernmost shrine on the Asakusa Seven Lucky Gods route, located near the previously mentioned Haseba Fudoson.
Ishihama Shrine is a beautiful shrine with a tea house within its precincts. Additionally, it’s part of a complex of several shrines, including Edo Shrine, Kitano Shrine, Myogi Hachiman Shrine, and Arakami Shrine. It’s a unique collection of shrines.
At the far end, you’ll find the main hall of Ishihama Shrine, and to the right, there are separate halls for each of the affiliated shrines.
After paying your respects, I recommend visiting the tea house within the shrine’s grounds. There, you can enjoy amazake (a sweet, non-alcoholic rice drink) and mitarashi dango (sweet rice dumplings skewered and covered in a soy-based glaze). Amazake is a healthy beverage made from rice koji and is sometimes called the “drinkable IV drip” due to its health benefits. This tea house also serves soba noodles, tempura, and more, making it a great place to dine.
